Content:The discipline of chemometrics covers the application of mathematical or statistical methods to chemical data. The International Chemometrics Society (ICS) offers the following definition: Chemometrics is the science of relating measurements made on a chemical system or process to the state of the system via application of mathematical or statistical methods.
We will cover the following areas in conjunction with projects. Students will need to participate in the term projects and present latest scientific papers in terms.
.Techniques for collecting good data
.Fundamentals of instrumental analysis
.Instrumental optimization of experimental parameters
.Experiments design , calibration,
.Signal processing
.Extracting information from chemical data
.Statistics,
.Pattern recognition, modeling,
.Structure-property-relationship estimations.
.Support vector machines
.Wavelet transformations
.Multi-way analysis
.Fuzzy theory,
.Chemometrics databases
Basic analytical chemistry and statistics background preferred but not required. Experience in machine learning, multivariate statistical analysis, and pattern recognition will be helpful but not required.
